Drysdale hitting the target and it’s paying off

Jamie Drysdale

Monday night’s game against the Rangers was not one of Jamie Drysdale’s better ones.
The defenseman committed a couple of turnovers which led to New York goals in a 6-2 win over the Flyers.
Not dwelling on that performance, Drysdale came back with a much more positive efforts. He scored his fourth goal in the past 10 games in a 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
Drysdale’s goal was his seventh of the season, tying his career high.
“Good things happen when you shoot the puck,” Drysdale said. “It’s kind of been showing as of late. I think it’s a mindset.”
Drysdale’s lateral movement is top of the league stuff. When he’s skating backwards right to left, guys who are skating forward have trouble keeping up.
The key to getting shots through is keeping an eye on what lanes have opened.
“It’s no fun hitting spin pads all the time,” Drysdale said. “Got to figure out a way to get it through.”

>Stringing wins together

While the Flyers have done a good job bouncing back from frustrating losses to Utah and the Rangers, the concern is about the defeats in the first place.
With just about a month left in the season, the Flyers have to find a way to string some wins together. A three-game winning streak after the Olympics was helpful but the Flyers need more of those.
Goaltender Sam Ersson, who turned in one of his best performances of the year in a 4-1 win over Washington on Wednesday night, said the Flyers can’t afford any more letdown performances, especially against teams on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.
“We know these games are very important,” Ersson said. “We can’t afford to lose two in a row. So we have to string a few wins together. And try to build on this tomorrow.”

>Cates plays his 300th

Noah Cates, a Minnesota native, got to play in his 300th NHL game on Thursday night.

>Brink out

The Flyers were hoping to get a chance to play against former teammate Bobby Brink, who was traded to the Wild last Friday. But Brink suffered a recent shoulder injury and was not able to play against his old team.

>Comeback kids

The Flyers’ comeback against the Capitals was their 19th of the season. Only Montreal (21) and Anaheim (20) have more.
