NHL calls off Thursday games, including Flyers-Islanders

The Flyers will need to keep more pucks out of their net next season to enjoy success.

Doing its best at some damage control, the National Hockey League finally got involved with the protest movement against the Jacob Blake shooting by postponing Thursday’s two scheduled playoff games, including the Flyers-Islanders match.

Also scratched was the Vegas-Vancouver game.

There was no confirmed dates for when Game 3 of the Philadelphia-New York game will be played. Game 4 was scheduled for Saturday, 12 noon.

The league decided to suspend play after the Hockey Diversity Alliance, a group of players, asked for it.

“It’s incredibly insulting as a Black man in hockey the lack of action and acknowledgement from the NHL, just straight up insulting,” Sharks win Evander Kane said on Wednesday prior to the NHL announcement.

Islanders coach Barry Trotz wasn’t quite in agreement with the decision.

“I think all sports should play,” Trotz said. “I think the athletes in every spot have a great platform.”
