Flyers to play only Islanders, Bruins, Rangers in preseason

If familiarity does indeed breed contempt, then the Flyers’ preseason schedule of games should be fun to watch.

Philadelphia’s eight-game slate will have only three teams – the Boston Bruins, the New York Islanders and the New York Rangers – on it.

A highlight of the exhibition contests will be a meeting between the Flyers and New York Islanders at PPL Center in Allentown, home of the Flyers’ AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

This is the fourth straight year the teams will meet at PPL.

The preseason will begin with four games in four days, the first three of which will be against the Islanders in three different venues – Sept. 16 at Nassau Coliseum, Sept. 17 at the Wells Fargo Center and Sept. 18 at Barclays Center.

After the busy start, the Flyers will play three more contests, two of which are at home. They will welcome in the Bruins on Sept. 24 and then the Rangers on Sept. 27 before concluding the preseason on Sept. 29 in Boston.

The 2018 preseason schedule:

Sunday, Sept. 16: New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum, 1 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 17: New York Islanders at Wells Fargo Center, 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Sept. 18: New York Islanders at Barclays Center, 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 19: New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, 7 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 21: New York Islanders at PPL Center, 7 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 24: Boston Bruins at Wells Fargo Center, 7 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 27: New York Rangers at Wells Fargo Center, 7 p.m.
