Flyers keep playing with that never-say-die attitude

PHILADELPHIA – With a league-leading 11 come-from-behind wins this season, the Flyers have shown they’re almost never out of a game.
On Sunday, they just started their rally a little too late.
Down 3-1 midway through the second period, the Flyers picked up a goal from Travis Konecny and later had a chance to tie the game when Trevor Zegras was awarded a penalty shot early in the third period.
The Zegras attempt was stopped however and although the Flyers kept the pressure on the Colorado Avalanche throughout the third period, the rally came up short in a 3-2 loss at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
“It was a good third period,” Sean Couturier said. “We just couldn’t come back. It’s good proof that we can play with anyone. We just have to bring that (third period) effort more consistently.”

With Cam York still sidelined by an upper-body injury, the Flyers put Nick Seeler on the top pairing with Travis Sanheim.
That eventually led to a third pairing of Egor Zamula-Noah Juulsen, which was on the ice for two of Colorado’s three goals.
“They’re scratching and clawing,” Tocchet said in the pair’s defense. “We’ve got to get something, they’re trying.”
Any confusion out there with the new pairings?
Emil Andrae, who was paired with Jamie Drysdale, shook his head: “I don’t think it’s difficult. I think we all know each other at this point. We’ve played a lot of games. I think we’ve played great together.”

Andrae played 21:59, was a plus-1 and competed with confidence in this game against some very good players.
“That’s what I’m looking for,” Tocchet said. “He was very good today. He was skating, he didn’t wait. There were times he had it, he wasn’t flat-footed, he was being aggressive, he wasn’t looking to defer.
“A good step to play against the top team in the league. Good for him.”

Matvei Michkov turns 21 on Tuesday. He posted two assists in Wednesday night’s win over Buffalo and moved past Behn Wilson for assists (45) by a Flyer player before the age of 21. Peter Zezel holds the team record with 82, followed by Eric Lindros with 70. Michkov is fifth on that list.
