Flyers hoping Foerster injury isn’t too serious

Tyson Foerster

PHILADELPHIA – When Tyson Foerster left the game in the second period, the groan coming out of the stands could be heard up in the rafters.
As it happened at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Monday night, everyone connected to the Flyers could see the season pass before their eyes. Foerster’s injury was listed as upper body and he did not return to action.
Hopefully for the team and its fans, the injury is not too serious.
Foerster had scored the Flyers’ only goal of the game, his team-leading 10th, and then some bad luck happened again. Recently, he missed a few games after blocking a shot.
“I hope it’s not long,” coach Rick Tocchet said after the 5-1 loss to Pittsburgh. “He’s a big part of our team.”
Foerster’s goal tied the score at 1-1. Then came the injury. Did that cause the team to lose some momentum?
“I don’t think so,” Tocchet said. “Obviously when one of your good players is out. . .but I don’t think that is the reason why (for the loss of energy). But losing a player like that hurt.”
Captain Sean Couturier said Foerster’s status is concerning.
“Yeah, definitely,” he said. “He’s been playing great all year. Hopefully he’s all right.”
Couturier said Foerster’s absence created a bit of a problem because the team had to juggle lines to make up for his absence.
“But you know it’s next man up,” he said. “Everyone’s got to step up. Tonight we just didn’t have it.”
Noah Cates felt the same way.
“He’s such an important part of our team,” Cates said. “It kind of messed with our lineup. But everyone’s got to be ready when things go awry like that. You kind of have to go back to the basics.”
Travis Konecny said Foerster’s absence was felt.
“That’s tough,” he said. “He’s such a big part of our team, the locker room, everything.”
