Flyers acquire defenseman in trade with Dallas

Looking to shore up their organizational depth on defense, the Flyers acquired another promising prospect at that position on Thursday.
The team picked up Christian Kyrou from the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Samu Tuomaala.
General manager Daniel Briere announced the trade.
According to the Flyers, Kyrou will report to the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
The 22-year-old Kyrou was a second-round pick (50th overall) in the 2022 NHL Draft.
Kyrou, 5-feet-11, 165-pound player has appeared in 97 career AHL games with the Texas Stars in parts of three seasons (2023-25), recording 12 goals/38 points.
During the 2023-24 season, he led all Texas defensemen in power-play goals (three) and ranked second among blueliners with eight goals/23 points.
So far this season, Kyrou has skated in four games for Texas, registering eight shots on goal.
Kyrou, a native of Toronto, was a plus player in his junior hockey tenure. He was a plus-23 with the Sarnia Sting of the OHL in 2022-23.
Tuomaala, 22, will join the Dallas Stars and continue a career which has had its ups and downs.
He was selected by the Flyers in the second round (46th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft.
There were somewhat high hopes that Tuomaala might eventually crack the Flyers’ lineup. However, despite some strong training camps, Tuomaala never quite made a good enough impression.
Over parts of four seasons with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, he recorded 26 goals/75 points in 120 AHL games.
The Finnish right wing, who checks in at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, has a salary cap hit of $830,833 and can become a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
