Flyers’ roster down to 44 after initial cuts

      VOORHEES, N.J. – The first pink slip day was held at Flyers training camp on Wednesday and 14 players were the first to go.

      The Flyers reduced their roster from 58 players to 44.

      Five players were assigned to their respective junior teams:

      Goaltender Sam Hillebrandt (OHL, Barrie, released from tryout contract), goaltender Carson Bjarnson (WHL, Brandon), defenseman Spencer Gill (QMJHL, Rimouski), defenseman Carter Sotheran (WHL, Portland), forward Josh Zakreski (WHL, Portland, released from tryout contract).

      Nine players have been assigned to the Flyers’ AHL affiliate the Lehigh Valley Phantoms:

      Defenseman Matteo Mann, defenseman Emile Chouinard, defenseman Ethan Samson, defenseman Sam Sedley, forward Sawyer Boulton, forward Nick Capone, forward Alexis Gendron, forward Matthew Miller, forward Zayde Wisdom.

      The Phantoms are coached by Ian Laperriere.
