Flyers suffer second straight loss to Seattle

Travis Konecny

After losing a 4-3 decision to the Seattle Kraken on Sunday night in Philadelphia, the Flyers were hoping a change of venue in Washington state might provide a better outcome.

No such luck.

Although Travis Konecny scored his first two goals since Jan. 11 – ending a 13-game drought, the Flyers took it on the chin again Thursday night when they lost, 6-2, at Climate Pledge Arena.

Yanni Gourde led the Seattle attack with a pair of goals, which ended a 15-game skid dating back to Jan. 10.

The Flyers fell behind early and never recovered as their season record dropped to 22-24-10.

On the first game of a four-game western road trip, the Flyers surrendered a shorthanded goal to Jared McCann at 3:01 of the first period. McCann stole the puck from the Flyers’ Kevin Hayes and fired a shot past goaltender Carter Hart.

Hart was pulled in the second period after allowing four goals on 19 shots. He was replaced by Samuel Ersson, recently recalled from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

For the first period, the Flyers were outshot, 12-1.

Seattle’s Matty Beniers and Justin Schultz each had a goal and an assist for the Kraken, who are coached by former Flyers bench boss Dave Hakstol.

Konecny scored 14 seconds into the third period to get the Flyers on the scoreboard and then added his 26th at 14:11 for the final goal of the game.

According to the NHL public relations, the one shot allowed the Flyers in the first period ties a low in the league this period. Carolina duplicated the feat back on Nov. 23.

The Flyers’ next stop on the road trip is Vancouver on Saturday night.
