Flyers mascot Gritty presents Charles Boehm Middle School teacher Sandy Metzger with a check to be used toward sustainability initiatives in the Pennsbury School District.

Sandy Metzger, a seventh-eighth grade science teacher at Charles Boehm Middle School in Yardley, received a surprise visit from Philadelphia Flyers mascot Gritty and representatives from Everfi to honor her as the National Hockey League Players’ Association’s Future Goals “most valuable teacher” for the month of January.

With the honor, Metzger received a $10,000 grant for the Pennsbury School District from the National Hockey League and league partner SAP which will be used toward sustainability initiatives.

To celebrate her award, the Flyers presented Metzger with a signed Carter Hart jersey and tickets to an upcoming Flyers game where she will be honored in-game.

Metzger was one of 19 nominees from across the United States and Canada.
