Flyers’ youth catching on quick to Tortorella’s plan

John Tortella

Flyers coach John Tortorella once said it might take his team about 10 or 15 games to get a handle on his system.

Judging by what took place in Thursday night’s 5-2 win over New Jersey, things are going  way ahead of schedule.

Credit some of that to the dozen or so players in the age 25-and-under category, which included two goals each from Travis Konecny and Morgan in this victory.

The coach even left these youngsters out at crunch time.

“Listen, we want to win, I don’t want to do something wrong,” Tortorella said. “But I also have to look further down the road at developing people. That’s kind of the catch. I’m going to give them an opportunity. I have to find about certain players in certain situations.

“Hopefully they grow. That’s what you hope, that they have some success. And they do better the next time because they feel good about themselves. That’s all key to developing players.”
