Flyers sign free-agent defenseman Folin

He might not be the big-name veteran defenseman many believe the Flyers need to add, but Christian Folin can provide some noteworthy NHL experience.

The Flyers signed the free agent backliner to a one-year contract on Thursday.

He last played for the Los Angeles Kings and prior to that, the Minnesota Wild.

The 27-year-old native of Kungsbacka, Sweden is about to enter his fifth NHL season.

Last year with the Kings, Folin recorded three goals and a total of 13 points with a plus-1 rating in 65 games.

Prior to joining the Kings, Folin spent four seasons  with the Wild.

He appeared in a total of 118 games for Minnesota, posting four goals and 19 assists for 23 points and a plus-15 rating.

He also appeared in a total of 41 games for the Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Iowa Wild, where he recorded a total of six goals and 11 assists for 17 points during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

The 6-3, 205-pound Folin played his junior hockey in North America, competing for Fargo of the United States Hockey League and later for Autin of the North American Hockey League.

In addition, he spent two years playing for UMass-Lowell, helping the school win the 2013 Hockey East championship.
