Lindblom’s progress marked by selection to AHL All-Star Game

Oskar Lindblom will compete in AHL All-Star Game

Flyers left wing prospect Oskar Lindblom is making good progress, as his selection to the American Hockey League All-Star Game would attest.

Lindblom was named to fill in for injured Lehigh Valley Phantoms teammate Danick Martel on the Atlantic Division roster at the midseason classic, which will be played at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Utica, N.Y. the weekend of Jan. 28-29.

The 21-year-old Lindblom has been praised by Flyers general manager Ron Hextall for his improved play over the past couple seasons. The Swede enjoyed an outstanding training camp with the Flyers this past September and some consider a move to the NHL at some point a foregone conclusion.

In 41 games with the Phantoms, Lindblom has produced 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points with a plus-3.

At 6-foot-1, 191 pounds, Lindblom is equipped with exceptional skating speed and good hockey sense.

Lindblom was selected by the Flyers in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Other changes for All-Star Game’s Central Division roster include Rockford IceHogs forward Matthew Highmore and defenseman Carl Dahlstrom.

Highmore and Dahlstrom replace Rockford’s Vinnie Hinostroza and Erik Gustafsson, who will be unavailable for the event.

The 2018 All-Star rosters now feature 37 first-time participants, seven former first-round draft choices and 11 more second-rounders. In addition, 26 of the All-Stars have been recalled to the National Hockey League already this season.
